Hello Friends,
How's been your day and your week?
For so many of us we already know that popular cliche that says the 'Customer is King'.
So when we go to ask for goods and services, we expect top notch attention to our demands.
But has it ever occurred to us that our service providers also need some respect from us?
This is our focus today.
Every year, millions of dollars are spent by organizations and individuals alike in training programs just to acquire excellent and efficient customer service skills that can help them serve their clients better and optimally and honestly, giant strides have been made in that respect.
Our focus now is on the flip side of the coin where the customer now relates with the service provider.
Generally speaking because of the level of attention and possibly hype given to the customers many unfortunately have taken to abusing that privilege.
In many societies, especially one like ours (Nigeria) we have noticed a rising trend of utter disregard for the service providers.
This is because many customers feel after all they're doing you a favour or feel that it's their money and they don't think they owe you any respect.
As someone who gets to meet people daily while on the job I've noticed this ugly attitude displayed countless times by customers.
While it important that we demand value for the money we pay for services, it's necessary that we also approach them with politeness and respect especially for those who do their jobs well.
Giving excellent services takes a lot of sacrifice which many at times may not be quantified in monetary terms.
When you go to any office, shop, mall, restaurant, coffee shop, bar, hospital, bank and any other point of service delivery talk to the staff in a polite manner while asking for what you need.
Don't go about shouting your orders to the attendant at the restaurant, bank or wherever.
Try to be humane at times and know that they are humans too and not machines and that they have several of your kind to deal with daily as they satisfy your demands.
Stop being rude and abusive at them. People generally become kinder when addressed respectfully and politely.
However being polite doesn't mean being quiet when you're being disrespected by the service providers.
You should show your displeasure though in a civil manner.
But in all let's learn to consciously treat them with respect and generous appreciation for a job weldone so they can serve you better.
Who knows it may earn you a little extra favors.
Have you said a 'thank you' to that banker, fashion designer, carpenter, doctor, stockbroker or mechanic of yours today for a job well done?
