My Ten Year Journey in the Nigerian Labour market 7

I spoke about how I volunteered in my last post.

So let me talk about how I got into what I'm currently doing which happened to be my dream career path.

I remember I said at the beginning of 2010 I wrote down on a piece of paper the exact kind of job I wanted.

Well it happened o. I got it. Same year.

Somewhere around September, I was in the bank one day and bumped into a senior colleague at the University back then. We got talking he asked what I was doing and I said I'd just resigned from a teaching job a few months back.

So he just said casually if I'd be interested in getting trained in Medical Ultrasound. I said yes and we fixed an appointment.

I got to their Medical centre, he gave me a briefing on how things were done.

I met the MD, who asked a few questions and I was admitted for the training.

I was slated for weekends initially, then later also during the week. Funny enough that senior colleague happened to be my major instructor alongside someone I had also known from my Faculty in the University.

It was a great time learning, reading, researching and just opening up to this dream that was coming true.

It was also not really easy for me cos I was broke at that time. I had to save every dime I had to have enough money to transport myself there. But I didn't mind the stress, I had gotten what I was looking for.

Then after two months, in November precisely both my instructors were not around, and MD too had to travel out of the country and I was told to cover the work for two weeks. This was my acid test.

I was scared at first as I had never scanned a patient before now without my instructors.

But it was a challenge I was willing to take. So I did. What wasn't clear I referred to the materials left for me to check and verify.

Then after two weeks they came back. The MD went through the records on what I had done and was impressed.
There and then I was paid for those two weeks and then given an appointment immediately.

I was happy and resumed work. And I went on to work in that establishment for about four years.

And the experience was great. I grew on the job. Learnt, expanded my knowledge base and here I am today.

I had a career break though in 2014. For that whole year. I'll talk about it in the concluding part.

Next year November will make it ten years I've walked this path in Medical Ultrasound. It's been an awesome journey. It's a job I wake up to everyday.

It's tough, demanding, requires a lot of focus and competence because so much depends on the outcome of your findings, but I still look forward to it.

I've had the opportunity of being part of so many families pregnancy journey. My god-children now are uncountable. 😁.

So I'll just say as I round up this post that it's important that you clearly define what it is you want out of life early enough.

It doesn't matter whether you know how it will come or not just define it clearly. When you do that life has an amazing way of seiving through opportunities and bring you what aligns with what you want.

Remember the Bible says "ask and you will receive". Ask from life what you want. You will get it.

Secondly, remember opportunities come dressed in work clothes most times. Be ready to work if you must achieve what you're looking for.

Diligence will open the door to you.
Don't abuse privileges and opportunities given to you.

Maximize them. They are your ladder to your next level.

Juvenile Diabetes.

Juvenile Diabetes seems like a strange word because that disease is usually associated with adults. But in this article we will look at what that really means.  Sometime last month i was chatting with a friend on issues of diet and she went on to tell me about her observation on how a lot of modern parents in a bid to make their kids feel good or pampered stuff them with all kinds of unhealthy snacks coated with so much sugar and unhealthy preservatives. I remember also reading an article few years back about how exercises were forcefully added to school curriculums in one of these advanced countries in the middle east as they observed lots of their children coming down with obesity and diabetes. These two scenarios prompted me to write this post especially for parents, to mind what their children eat. --------- ------------- ------------ ---------- ------------- What is Juvenile Diabetes? This is a chronic condition in children in which their pancreas produces little o...
